My twee experience at Wee Fairie Village in a Steampunk Wonderland
I was concerned that the Wee Fairie Village in a Steampunk'd Wonderland at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, CT, would be a bit too tacky or sentimental. I need not have worried. These 26 individual art installations of scenes from Alice in Wonderland are complex, evocative, clever, and absurdly great! It was most fun to hear children's voices as they wandered through. "There's the thimble! There's the golden shoe!" they shouted, following the Scavenger Hunt described in the map/brochure. Some new realizations about the power of miniatures will appear in an upcoming episode of "The Thread with Binnie Klein," my new podcast.
